World Snooker Championships Need New SponsorIt has been reported that the World Snooker Championships in Sheffield may be facing serious problems due to the fact that major sponsors have pulled out of sponsorship deals. Players Rally to Save Snooker Club
A popular snooker club in Essex, England is possibly about to be demolished. The club sits on the top level of an indoor market called Rayleigh Lanes. The owners of Rayleigh Lanes Indoor Market want to turn the unit into twelve, two bedroom flats. Mark Francois, the Rayleigh Tory MP, has spoke to councilors and asked them to reject the plan to destroy the snooker club, Rayleigh Lanes. (21/08)
Bahrain to Host Snooker World Ranking Event
World Snooker recently announced that the Kingdom of Bahrain would play host to a world ranking event in the sport of snooker. This is the first time ever a world ranking event has been held in Bahrain. Bahrain is located in the Middle East, east of Saudi Arabia, on an archipelago in the Persian Gulf. (18/08)
Snooker Hall Raid in Batley Results in Three Arrests
Earlier this week, a snooker club in Batley was raided by police and other organizations. The snooker club, located on Bradford Road, was being looked into by the police, fire department, gambling commission, Kirklees Licensing and Excise after information had been exchanged. (15/08)
Random Draw Creates New Excitement for Royal London Watches Grand Prix
The Royal London Watches Grand Prix has decided to change things up a bit during this year’s tournament. For the first time, this year’s snooker tournament will have a random drawing. All matches of the last sixteen to the semi finals will be drawn out of a hat. It will be similar to the style of a football cup draw. (13/08)
Snooker Loses Two Main Sponsors
888 have decided to quit their five year deal to sponsor the World Championship of Snooker after only three years and Saga Insurance has decided to remove themselves from the Wembley Masters. Both 888 and Saga Insurance are major sponsors for the game of Snooker. (07/08)
