Gambling operators all over the world have their hand in many industries. Some operators have several online websites that feature different gambling avenues such as casinos and poker rooms while other operators gravitate toward land venues. Each option provides the operator with more revenues and ways to expand their company. One great way for gambling operators to expand is to sponsor certain events or sports teams. The latest gambling group to announce a sponsorship is Betfred.

Betfred, the United Kingdom land and online gambling group, recently announced they will become the latest sponsor for the World Snooker Championship. The 888 gambling group used to be the sponsor for the event until their deal ran out after last year’s tournament.

The Betfred deal was a GBP 2 million agreement which will see Betfred sponsor the event for four years. It has been hard for the Championships to find a new sponsor for the event especially during the rough times of the economy but they are glad to have signed with Betfred.

A spokesman for the Championship stated “We have been working really hard on trying to get new sponsors since 888 ended their sponsorship after last season’s tournament. But the Crucible event is so popular we were always confident we would find a new sponsor.”
