Jimmy White Wins Times & Citizen Legends of Snooker Challenge
The Times and Citizen Legends of Snooker challenge took place last night at Bedford Corn Exchange. Jimmy White managed to come from 3-1 behind to beat Steve Davis for the win. Davis was ranked 29 in the world while White was ranked 62.Both players had a competitive edge and Davis at age 51 has won six world titles and managed to win the first two frames of the match with runs of 51 and 62. White came in with 42 after the balls were set against him after Davis called a foul on himself stretching over a pack of reds.
In the seventh frame, both missed chances to win. Davis made an error on a black off its spot and White was running out of position when well placed. Davis won after White stuck the yellow over a corner pocket. In the eighth, White performed better by getting a safety exchange. During the ninth frame, White started to boast the win but missed on a shot. Davis couldn’t do anything after the miss so White came back and got the win.
Earlier White had played in a special one frame amateur challenge against Sam Harvey. White played well with an expert break off shot leaving Harvey under the baulk cushion. Harvey made an attempt at a long pot but then left White with an opener that he could make look so easy. White defeated Harvey with a break of 116. Sam Harvey is from the Greyfriars Snooker Club and has a 147 break in his play history.
