Niraj Khemka Earns Senior Snooker Title
This past Sunday Niraj Khemka earned a senior snooker title after defeating Manish Jain 4-2 in the State Billiards and Snooker Championships. The event took place at the Bengal Rowing Club and many players came out to compete. It had been two years since Khemka had won the Championships and he was ready to take it again. He commented that it had been an ‘anxious wait’ and after his win two years ago it seemed another title had been ‘eluding’ him. He also commented that he is overjoyed as the win was a dream come true.
Khemka’s win was not easy as he had to come back after losing the first two frames. But he did come back. Khemka managed to win four consecutive frames and also have a break of 62 in the fifth frame. However that would not be the highest break of the Championships as Akram Khan earned a 63 earlier in the day.
Jain has yet to win the Championships as this was his third year in a row as a finalist. Hopefully he will be able to take a title win someday soon, but it was not to be this past weekend, as it was Khemka’s day.
