Seventeen Year Old Boy Wins Snooker Classic
This past Sunday the Prataps Investment Snooker Classic took place at the Sigatoka Club. The event saw twenty four competitors vying for the top prize but it would be a seventeen year old who would come up with the win. Shalvin Shalendra beat Sanjit Kumar 2-0 in the finals to take the win. in the semi-finals, Shalendra beat defending champion Albert Ali out of the competition with a 2-1 score while Kumar knocked out Ram Krishan.
The largest break of the tournament was by Sikeli Kaci of a 31. Rocky Ali the Sigatoka Club sports director and former Fiji snooker champion commented on Shalendra deserving the win. he stated:
“he’s a dedicated player, who practices every day. He started playing this year and this was just his third tournament. he has just left school and is a future Fiji champions. Shalvin played aggressive snooker as it’s never easy to beat players like Albert (Ali), who is also the northwest champion.”
Rocky stated that the snooker club is trying to revive snooker in Sigatoka after a lapse in the game for one year. Rocky said they are trying to hold regular tournaments now as the problems have straightened out.
