Scotland’s Stephen Maguire could not come up with the win in the end, and Shaun Murphy will be moving on to face Marco Fun in the UK Snooker Championship. Maguire lost Saturday nights match to Murphy 9-4.

Maguire was playing very well but could not get a match win. He had two 100 plus breaks against Murphy but Murphy was able to close a match, unlike Maguire. In their afternoon meeting Murphy took the lead in the matchup 6-2.

Maguire started the match up with a 147 break and then a break of 112 put him back in the running but he just could not come up with wins in the best of seventeen matchup. Murphy then shot a 100 of his own and his play just fell more in the pockets.

No matter how hard Maguire tried it seemed as though the match was meant for Murphy. In a BBC2 interview, Murphy stated: “I knew he was going to come at me with all guns blazing. I didn't expect a maximum in the first frame. I knew I had to answer, and I had a chance and made a good clearance. I'm just pleased to get through.
