Snooker Star Ronnie O’Sullivan is set to move from his normal game of snooker to try and tackle the motorsport industry this weekend. The three time World Snooker Champion will be racing at Silverstone this weekend in his debut race in the Volkswagen Racing Cup.

Ronnie will be driving car number 147 which is a turbocharged 2-litre Volkswagen Jetta. He will be competing in two 20-minute rounds in the UK amateur championships. Ronnie has never raced before and he commented that this race is just the beginning of his racing career.

Ronnie stated that this was his ‘first real intense kind of motorsport experience’ and “I want to continue racing; it’s something that I’m well into. I’m doing Silverstone and hopefully also the Brands Hatch races in September and I definitely want to do more racing next year.”

Ronnie decided to take up racing as a complete break from his ‘day job’ of snooker. He says he loves cars and loves driving so it is different than the sport of snooker that he chooses to do as his career. It will be interesting to see how well he does against those who have been racing their whole lives, but maybe Ronnie O’Sullivan will surprise those in attendance and do very well in the sport. Perhaps he may find a new career in the driver’s seat.
