World Snooker Academy has New MembersIn July 2006, the World Snooker Academy opened in Sheffield inside the English Institute of Sport. It was created as a state-of-the-art training facility for amateur and professional snooker players. Players can join the Academy and hone their skills in snooker. Recently eight players joined the World Snooker Academy.
James Wattana, a legend snooker player from Thailand, has joined the Academy. He is a three-times ranking event champion and the former world number three in snooker. He has become a regular resident at the Academy.
Also new to the Academy are Supoj Saenla and Issara Kachiawong. Saenla is the current Asian Champion in snooker. A few young players have also joined the Academy. Xiao Guo Dong, Liu Chuang, Liang Wen Bo, Tian Peng Fei and Liu Song have also become members. Many of the new members hope to have the same success as Ding Junhui. He used the World Snooker Academy as his training facility last year and is ninth in the World rankings.
The Academy Director at the World Snooker Academy, Keith Warren, stated: "We are delighted to welcome the new players to Sheffield and hope our first class facilities will provide them with platform for success on the snooker circuit. James Wattana is an incredibly experienced professional and will act as a tremendous role model for our up and coming players, while the youngsters who have also moved to Sheffield possess great potential and will be the next generation of snooker stars."
